Getting started
This guide takes you from a new account to a team that's tracking real work: create a workspace, invite people, shape your workflow, bring your existing issues over and connect your tools.
Create your account
Sign up with your email address and confirm it with the 6-digit code we send you. Where Google sign-in is enabled, you can continue with Google instead.
Set up your workspace
The first time you sign in, a short setup walks you through:
- Create your workspace. A workspace holds your teams, issues and projects. Pick its name and its address.
- Set up your profile. Your name and avatar, which teammates see on issues, comments and @mentions.
- Name your first team. Each team has its own issues, workflow and cycles. The team's key
(like
WEB) prefixes its issue numbers. - Invite your teammates. They get an email with a link to join. You can do this later from Settings → Members.
- Make it yours. Pick a light or dark theme and an accent color.
Shape your workflow
Every team starts with Backlog, Todo, In Progress, Requires QA, Done and Canceled. To rename them, add your own or reorder them, open Settings → Teams, pick the team and edit its workflow. Labels live under Settings → Labels.
Import your issues
Open Settings → Import and pick where your issues are coming from:
- Linear: in Linear, open Settings › Workspace › Import / Export and choose Export CSV, then upload the file from the email Linear sends you.
- Jira: open Filters › View all issues (or any filter), choose Export › Export CSV (all fields) and upload it.
- GitHub: enter the repository as
owner/name. Public repositories work without a token. Closed issues land in Done, and labels map by name. - CSV: any spreadsheet with a header row. A Title column is required; Description, Status, Priority, Assignee, Labels, Estimate and Due date are optional. You match columns to fields before importing.
Statuses, priorities, assignees and labels are matched for you, and issues you already imported are skipped, so running an import twice is safe.
Work at keyboard speed
Press ⌘ K (or Ctrl K) anywhere to search, jump to a page or run a command. Most actions on an issue have a single-key shortcut.
Connect your tools
- AI assistants: connect Claude, ChatGPT, Claude Code or Codex so they can read and update your issues.
- Slack and GitHub: an admin can add them under Settings → Integrations.
- Production errors: create a service under Settings → Services and add the JavaScript SDK to it.
- Scripts and webhooks: personal tokens are under Settings → API tokens, and webhooks under Settings → Webhooks. The API reference has the details.
